University of Bolton, why we are the right choice
Location - Bolton, Greater Manchester
30/08/2023
On the 13th of June, 2023, our community had the privilege of attending an incredibly moving and inspiring webinar presented by Mrs. Figen Murray. With immense courage and strength, Mrs. Murray shared her personal journey and the devastating impact the Manchester Arena Terrorist Attack had on her life and the lives of many others. The event shed light on the urgent need for enhanced venue security and showcased Mrs. Murray's tireless efforts to effect change.
Mrs. Murray, who tragically lost her son Martyn Hett in the attack that claimed the lives of 22 innocent individuals, delivered an emotional account of the profound loss and grief she experienced. Her story touched the hearts of everyone present and reminded us of the profound consequences of inadequate security measures at public venues.
During the webinar, Mrs. Murray revealed her discovery of a significant gap in current security legislation. She highlighted the fact that security measures at venues in the United Kingdom are currently recommended rather than mandatory. This crucial loophole prompted her to embark on a campaign for change, which began online and has now gained significant momentum.
We are pleased to share that Mrs. Murray's campaign has officially been given the green light to proceed with a draft legislation being presented to the government this spring. This remarkable achievement signifies a major step forward in advocating for comprehensive and mandatory security protocols at public venues across the nation.
With unwavering determination, Mrs. Murray implores the government to address this critical issue by implementing robust security measures at all venues. Her efforts aim to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals attending concerts, sporting events, and other public gatherings.
The webinar sparked a passionate discussion among attendees, who expressed their support for Mrs. Murray's cause. Many participants were deeply moved by her personal story and the strength she has shown in turning tragedy into a catalyst for change.
As members of this community, we have a collective responsibility to advocate for safer environments at public venues. We encourage you to stand alongside Mrs. Murray by raising awareness about this issue and supporting her campaign for mandatory security measures.
The webinar with Mrs. Figen Murray served as a poignant reminder of the impact one person can make when they harness their voice and passion for the greater good. Let us unite to ensure that no more lives are lost due to preventable security vulnerabilities.
