University of Bolton, why we are the right choice

The Centre of Pedagogy Events promotes and presents educational research in the area of Education at the University of Bolton to meet the TIRI (Teaching Intensive, Research Informed) Agenda.
The events provide continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities for: experienced professional teachers, former trainee teachers, education mentors and assessors and partnership colleges in the Secondary School, Further Education (FE) and Higher Education (HE) teaching sector.
Our second Centre of Pedagogy event will take place on Weds 27 April 5.30pm -7.30pm on zoom. The theme is based on current areas of focus in the education sector and the event will provide a series of talks and presentations on the themes of:
' Positivity, Connectivity and Sustainability in Education'
‘Positivity’ underpins all effective practice in the education sector, as we need to consider the mental health and well being of both students and educators in order to promote positivity in teaching and learning in the post lockdown classroom.
‘Connectivity’ between staff and students; trainee teachers and mentors; the education sector and employers/industry; is essential for strengthening education systems to be resilient and operate successfully, enriching teaching and learning, and supporting inclusion.
‘Sustainability’ is the consistent shift to create programmes and adapt curricula so that students are equipped to contribute to a society achieving Net Zero and realising the benefits of longer, healthy lives in an ageing society.
Our guest speakers include:
1. Dr Sarah Telfer- University of Bolton –‘Positivity, Connectiveness & Sustainability’ in educational research. An Introduction to the InSPIRE FE Journal -Building a Research Community’.
2. Dr. Victoria Wright (SFHEA)- Head of Post Compulsory Education- Institute of Education- University of Wolverhampton- ‘Sharing our Stories as Educators- the use of storying to create cathartic and productive moments - alternative possible ways of viewing pedagogic experiences'.
3. Sophie Hall – Director of Science and ECF & Head of Achievement - Year 9, King’s Leadership Academy -Great Schools Trust- ‘The importance of Connectivity in Education- Connectedness between mentors and trainees and the ECF'.
4. Charlotte Bonner- The Education & Training Foundation (ETF) –‘Sustainable development (ESD) landscape - how ESD is being included in forthcoming revisions of both the sector’s professional standards and the minimum core'.
