University of Bolton, why we are the right choice
Location - Bolton, Greater Manchester
I am Dr. Pauline Heather Walters - a lecturer is education and teacher training. I have worked for 19 years in education, having taught in secondary mainstream schools, in both the Caribbean and England.
My desire to gain a better understanding of special educational needs, inclusion and how such learners are supported within mainstream contexts, spurred me to pursue a master’s degree in education, with equity and inclusion studies. Following this, I engaged in my doctoral research, in which I investigated the efficacy of an organisational feature used within schools to support the inclusion of students with special educational needs.
My research interests include understanding better the experiences of students with special educational needs in mainstream schools, the organisational structures within schools that help support vulnerable students, as well as the educational outcomes and levels of progression to further education among these groups.
Other areas of interest include understanding the school experiences of newly arrived students (refugee and asylum seekers) to education in English schools.
