Engineer a Bright Future in Motorsport

If the thrum of an engine can make you turn your head, then this is the degree for you. For so many of our engineering motorsport students, their desire to work in the motorsports industry has been driven by their love of watching sporting greats whizz round the track. The UK has a long and very proud motoring heritage, from Formula 1 to Rally, with a long list of motor sporting legends to inspire the next generation of drivers – or support team!

Supportive and Skilled

Our motorsport engineering courses at the University of Bolton are based in Greater Manchester at the National Centre for Motorsport Engineering - the only one in the UK. You will develop your skills and knowledge in the specialist workshops and laboratories, purpose-built for automotive performance engineering and motorsport technology.

Small classes and the best Student-to-Staff ratio in the Northwest* mean that you will be learning directly from knowledgeable experts that can count on decades of engineering excellence. What’s more, in addition to superb industry connections, we also enjoy collaborations with Prodrive, RML Group and prominent race teams, including Speedwork’s Motorsport and Albatec Racing.

Precision Teaching and Learning

Engineering courses can be quite generalised, but our motorsport engineering course is highly specialised and tailored to the needs of the motorsports and automotive industry. You’ll study theoretical mathematics and engineering concepts, but you’ll also get to grips with the more practical side of the discipline. Through hands-on experience in CAD, composite manufacturing and race car set up, you’ll develop your knowledge of designing and manufacturing a race car. In your final year, you’ll take part in Formula Student at Silverstone, where you’ll put what you’ve learnt into practice against other university teams from all round the country.

Niche or Specialist?

Our undergraduate Engineering Motorsports courses are accredited by the Institute of Mechanical Engineering. Not only will you be able to develop your knowledge and understanding of the motorsports industry, but you will gain educational experience in mechanical engineering that can be used in several other industries.

Popular graduate roles in motorsport include:

Mechanic

OEM (original equipment manufacturer) rep/consultant

Production or test engineer

Race Technician

Research and development engineer

Vehicle designer

While our Motorsport Engineering course has been developed as a professional degree for the industry, your degree can open doors into other roles outside of motorsports. You may also be interested in:
