The University of Bolton puts our students at the heart of everything we do, whether studying On Campus in Bolton or Off Campus at one of our valued partner institutions. Students studying Off Campus may face particular challenges, so this page contains support and advice for you. You will find answers to some frequently asked questions, documents for download that we know many students will need during their time with us, and also contact details for the Off Campus Division. There are links to study skills and other student support services and links to your course information and your partner institution. The University of Bolton is your home, so please be welcome and contact us if we can help.
Yes, the off-campus team work closely with staff at our partners to ensure you receive the same learning. Each programme has an external examiner from another university to ensure comparability both with our on-campus programmes and those of other U.K. universities.
Yes, you will either access the University of Bolton library directly or use approved library facilities at our partners.
Let your Centre know immediately. They will guide you to the “Mitigating Circumstances Form” where you can record the circumstances and submit them do that we can make arrangements. Note you will need to supply evidence, and your application will need to be looked at and approved. But if in doubt talk to your Centre as soon as any problems occur.
We call this ‘suspending your studies’. Yes, you apply to do this. Speak to your Centre. If there are good reasons, this can usually be arranged.
Your work is marked thoroughly and a sample of marking is the checked/moderated by both other tutors and an External Examiner. Therefore you cannot challenge the actual marks. However if you believe that a genuine mistake has been made or that there are good unavoidable reasons for poor performance, then there is a right to appeal. Ask your Centre about the appeal process.
We hope you won’t need to, but yes absolutely. We take complaints very seriously. Ask your centre about the process. You should follow their process in the first instance.
