Dr John Calderbank

Lecturer

John is a lecturer in NCME at the University of Bolton. He primary teaching is for engineering courses and includes fluid dynamics and thermodynamics, mechanical and electrical systems relating to design, motorsports engineering and the design & development of engineering products. He is a member of the Institution of Engineering Designers.

Prior to joining the University of Bolton John was an academic lead responsible for developing successful courses in motorsports engineering, sports biomechanics and the engineering within biotechnology. He contributed to the engineering content of Inter-woven Motion, a video art-work by Chris Meigh-Andrews.

He has also worked with a number of organisations on a number of cases where expert opinion was required. Electric motorcycle, speed calculations with the police and a rampant pie trolley. John graduated with first class honours from the University of Salford after completing an apprenticeship with GEC Traction.

His PhD was on the dynamics and control of vehicle systems which included the control of freight trains. After working as a Projects Engineer with GEC Traction he completed research in the dynamics of deep sea oil rigs. He then became active in the integrity testing of vehicles.
