Makuta Mara

Lecturer

Makuta Manty Mara is a legal professional. She holds an LLM in Petroleum Law and Policy from the University of Dundee, an LLM in Corporate and Commercial Law from the University of Southampton, and a Barrister at Law (BL) from the Sierra Leone Law School. Her research and teaching focus on investment law, sustainability, commercial law, and energy law.

As a former teaching assistant at the University of Dundee and a research associate in the Extractives Hub Project, funded by the British Government through the Department for International Development (DFID), Makuta has a rich background in research and academia. She is a doctoral candidate, further deepening her understanding of international investment law.

In her professional career, Makuta has served as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of Sierra Leone since 2013. She has held leadership roles, including deputy managing partner of a private legal firm and state counsel at the Law Officers’ Department, Ministry of Justice in Sierra Leone.

Currently, she is a lecturer on both undergraduate and Master's programs at the University of Bolton.
