He later transitioned to the public sector, where he was appointed Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board, a fully state-owned entity responsible for managing Sri Lanka’s national electricity grid. During his tenure, Vidya made significant strides in advancing renewable energy, achieving over 50% renewable energy integration into the national grid. A strong advocate for renewable energy and Net Zero initiatives, he was instrumental in launching Sri Lanka’s first rooftop solar program in 2011.
