Sandie originally studied at Manchester University in the Honours School of Modern History with Economics and was awarded The George Unwin scholarship for postgraduate studies in social history. Sandie became interested in applied psychology during her career in the civil service and as a sports performer. She was a member of the former Household Financial Decision-Making Unit at the University of Bolton and involved in a series of research projects with Professor Rob Ranyard and a co-author of several published papers in economic psychology. In 2014 an opportunity to combine psychology and history came with the University’s Centre for Worktown Studies. With the Professor of Psychology, Jerome Carson, Sandie collaborated with “The Bolton News” to replicate the 1938 Mass Observation Competition – What Makes You Happy? Sandie continues to research in the happiness domain conducting further projects, has edited a book and is a co-author of published papers in happiness and leisure.
