University of Bolton, why we are the right choice

As a graduate from the University of Bolton you will be entitled to wear Academic Dress bearing our University colours. You can hire your academic robe, mortar board and hood from the University’s official robe supplier, William Northam.
If you are struggling with any aspect of the Academic Dress booking process, you can contact William Northam directly here. Please note the booking website will ask you for your student ID number and your surname as listed on our student record system.
Robe booking deadline
Please ensure you have booked your academic dress (if you wish to wear it) by 5pm on Tuesday 2 July 2024.
If you do not order your academic dress by the deadline, William Northam may not be able to accommodate at the last minute.
To book your academic dress please visit the William Northam website
Enter ‘University of Bolton’ in the ‘institution’ field, and then enter your student ID number, surname and University of Bolton email address.
You can then order the correct gown, hood and mortar board of the correct size. Please note that there are different gowns for different levels of study, so please ensure you select the correct award type.
Graduation ceremonies are formal occasions and as such most students and guests choose to wear smart clothing consisting of suit, shirt and tie for gentleman and for ladies – a skirt or trousers and a shirt or blouse or a dress.
You may find it helpful to wear a buttoned shirt or blouse, as this will help to secure your hood in position.
Students may also wish to wear traditional national dress.
Footwear should also be formal. Please choose your shoes carefully, if you are able to do so, you will need to walk upstairs to access your seat in the Albert Hall’s and to go onto stage.
Academic dress collection
If you have pre-booked your academic dress it will be available to collect from Y0-02, Greater Manchester Business School (GMBS), Great Moor Street, Bolton, BL1 1NE. You can collect your gown from 8am on the day of your Graduation ceremony.
Only Graduands are allowed to enter the robing area, and your guests are asked to wait outside the GMBS building.
Academic Dress Return
You will need to return your academic dress to Y1-05 in GMBS, University of Bolton by 7pm on the day of your ceremony.
