Study Worries

Supporting you through your student journey is our main focus. We're here because you're here. 

If you have any concerns about your studies it's important that you raise them as soon as possible. This will help us give you the help you need and prevent problems escalating. 

There are multiple sources of help at the university.

Student Advisers

Located in the Student Centre, Chancellor's Mall, our helpful team of student advisers will usually be your first point of contact. It's their job to know just about everything about the university, and if they don't know the answer to your question, then they will know who to ask.

Personal Tutors

Your personal tutor is a member of our academic staff who provides you with academic guidance and support. They are here to help you make the most of your studies as you progress through your university career. You can find their contact details through the university Staff Search.

If you don't know who your personal tutor is our student advisers will be able to find out for you. Student advisers can also check staff timetables to find out when they are teaching.  

Programme Leaders

Your programme leader is the senior member of the academic team responsible for your course. You can find their contact details through the university Staff Search.

Module Tutors

A module tutor is an academic who teaches on a particular module. Their name will usually appear on the Moodle record for that module. You can find their contact details through the university Staff Search.

Student Liaison Officers

If you have something on your mind that's worrying you and you'd prefer to speak to someone who's not involved in your personal life or academic work, you can arrange to see one of our student liaison officers (SLOs). 

Our SLOs run drop-in sessions and offer one-to-one appointments giving you access to information, advice and guidance on a range of academic and pastoral areas. They also run bite-sized study skills sessions, and can help put you in touch with a student mentor.

Library

The Library offers a wealth of information - and not just in books! Study skills advice and tutorials are available through LEAP Online. You can also access our online subject guides, curated by our expert subject librarians.

Bolton Students' Union

Bolton Students' Union plays a vital role advising, representing and assisting students. As well as organising fun events and supporting clubs and societies, the SU ensures that the student voice is heard through representation on staff-student liaison committees, school boards, and internal subject reviews.
