The University of Bolton welcomes students from Europe

The University of Bolton is proud to support students from across the EU and the globe, with over 60 different nationalities represented on-campus. The University of Bolton has a popular International Society, which organises social events and clubs.

BREXIT

The decision to leave the UK following the EU referendum in June 2016 has created an amount of uncertainty around studying in the UK for EU students. EU nationals will continue to be charged home fees for the 2020/21 academic year and will still be able to access loan support for Undergraduate and Postgraduate taught study from Student Finance England.

From the academic year starting in September 2021 onwards, EU nationals will be classed as international students and will not be able to access loan support for Undergraduate or Postgraduate study from Student Finance England. The UK will remain in the EU until the Brexit process has been completed. This means that European Economic Area (EEA) and Swiss nationals continue to have the same rights and status, and are subject to the same residence requirements under EU law as was the case before the UK plans to leave EU membership were announced.

On the 21st of April 2017, the government confirmed that EU nationals wishing to apply to undergraduate and master’s degree programmes for the academic year 2020/21 will still be able to apply for the same loan and grant support through Student Finance England. EU nationals will still be entitled to Home fee status. This support will be available for the duration of the degree programme. Following a general election, Parliament ratified the withdrawal agreement, and the UK left the EU at 11 p.m. GMT on 31 January 2020. The UK remains subject to EU law and remains part of the EU customs union and single market during the transition, but is no longer part of the EU's political bodies or institutions.
